Close to my Heart

Dunkaroos
This is Dallas at his last Basketball game with his coach. His team was the Dunkaroos. He did quite well with Basketball - he was quite the player. He pretty much made every basket he tried for.

BLACK WEDNESDAY
Today is BLACK WEDNESDAY - otherwise known as Valentine's Day. There is nothing wrong with the day itself (Other than the materialistic, money making stuff) - but to people who are single in life the day really SUCKS! Everywhere you turn at this time of year it is LOVE LOVE LOVE! Even TV is all romantic and mushy.
To the single people it is like a slap in the face! Seriously for people who really want to be in love and aren't it is terrible. I can't wait for this day to be over and it will be smooth sailing until Christmas. Well - except for my birthday this year. I would have been happy for this day to have been just skipped over.
Today I did celebrate V-Day with Dallas and my nieces and nephew. I took them to DQ for lunch and ice cream. But other than that I hate Valentine's Day. I used to love it as a kid - but it is a huge day that reminds you that you are alone and unloved. A day that many people I think would want to do without.

Update
Hey everyone - well I have taken a break from school due to health reasons. Well actually I have two more classes to finish up - but they are several weeks away :) I had a class that was due on the 5th of February and I was unable to complete it - but Briercrest is allowing me to defer it - yay! Thank you Briercrest. I wasn't expecting that at all - I thought I would have to take a zero for the course and re-register again for it. I was willing to do that too - but the school understands that I am having a little difficulty at the moment. I am so grateful.

Digging out
Well we are finally dug out of our place. Well actually for a few days - but it was dreadful. Wednesday it was blizzarding out all day and night. Saskatoon pretty much came to a complete standstill and we didn't move until Thursday. Thursday I had to shove on the front door just to get it open and then shovel a pathway that was waist deep just to get to my car!
Thankfully someone had snowblown the main walkway! Thank you! It saved me a lot of time as well as a lot of back pain! It was very cold -40 something with the windchill on Thursday so we didn't go anywhere after that. School was canceled for Dallas (which never happens in the city as they are needed for working parents) and Friday his school bus wasn't running do to the extreme windchills. Crazy weather! It was the worst storm since 1955 now and lasted almost 24 hours. Yikes - I hope we never see another storm like that.
The first two pictures are the front of my house. It was up to my knees pretty much between the two mountains on either side of my walkway. It also shows how much snow had blown on the front of the house too.
These pictures show where I had to push open the door to even get it open! There was a lot of snow!
The last pictures were taken of the snow on the mailbox, etc. I really like the one with the lights on. :)

Snow Day
Well today we are snowed in literally. I cannot open my front door and the snowdrifts in front of my place and my car are about waist deep! I kept Dallas home this morning because of the blizzard warning and I am sure glad I did. His school most likely will be closed tomorrow and I will have to call in to work. It is crazy here! The wind gusts are about 95 km/hr and the wind chill is terrible - and that is supposed to get even colder as the temperature drops this afternoon and evening. Yikes - they are saying that Saskatoon is in a state of emergency and that this is the worst blizzard since 1968! Almost 40 years! Wow! If I can ever get outside I will take pictures and post them

I'm Back
I got back last night from Briercrest - and I am exhausted mentally. It was a hard two weeks to be in class. Never mind a first class that drains your brain and twists it - theology. I learned a lot and when my brain is no longer mush I will put down a few things that caught my attention. For now, I am just getting ready for Christmas now. I am taking a well deserved break and setting up my tree and stuff. Plus I have to work at Walmart too.
