Rain Rain Go Away!

Well today was definitely an eventful day! I woke up this morning to my neighbor telling me that our sewer was backing up - so we spent a few hours hauling stuff out of the basement to save it from flooding. However, we found out that it wasn't actually the sewer but a water thing???? It hadn't actually started flooding in my basement yet, so we called the city to see what we can do. They said that there were so many homes in the city that were already flooded with either water or sewage that we should consider ourselves lucky and pray that it will stop raining. My neighbor kinda said "like prayer will do anything". I went home and called my friend Lisa and we prayed that my basement would not flood. I have my friend Kendra's stuff stored here while she is in Sri Lanka as well as my own stuff and my brothers. So it was an awful lot of things to haul if I needed to. However I am pleased to report that my house did not flood! Every townhouse in my area did except for mine - praise God!! Some people had 4 inches of water in their basements and I had none!

Some factual info - the average rain fall in Saskatoon in June is 60mm. Today in a matter of several hours it rained 70mm - while it only rained 6 mm in North Battleford. The river is so swollen here that it is blocking all the storm drains which results in no streets draining. We have had so much rain in the prairies lately that even the earth cannot keep up with it. However in Toronto they have had 15 days straight of 30+ degree weather (over 40 with the humidex) - if only there was a balance!
