Every year, I try to make some decisions (or resolutions) to make a difference in my life. I usually only stick to 1 or 2 - so that is pretty good. I think it is important to set goals after thoughtfully evaluating where you are at now in your life and then setting goals on where you want to go in the future. When I was a teenager in youth group we would do this on New Year's Eve. We would actually spend time in prayer with God and evaluate the last year - our relationship with Him, others and other things in our lives. Then we would write a letter to God outlining the past and where we would like to go in the future. Then the next year we would read them.
This year these are my decisions/goals:
1. To draw closer to God through prayer and other types of spiritual formation
2. To take my medications regularly (I haven't done so in the past and it is kind of sabotaging myself). I have 1 pill that I need to take 3 times a day - and I need to do it for my health or I will have complications from diabetes later on in life. I also need to get more active - either walking on my treadmill or outside, swimming - whatever. Winter always brings challenges - but I need to find a way around them.
3. To keep up with my relationships with my friends - I value my friendships, but often are neglected due to busyness. I don't want to be so busy that I neglect my friends. We need each other and busyness is one way that gets in the way of a lot of relationships in our society today. No body has time for one another and then we are all superficial. I am committing myself to not doing that.
4. To set aside one evening a week regularly so that Dallas and I will have a 'family night'. This is very important too - and I really find that his behavior changes for the better when we do this. But in the past, this falls to the side when I have assignments due, etc. But no more, this needs to be on priority status first, assignments second - regardless of pressures.
These are my top 4 - I may add more later! Happy New Year!
